It is my pleasure to be reviewing the Teardrop Bra from Montiel Activewear. Thank you again to Maggie Montiel and the company for this opportunity. I'm very excited to share this post.
Finding the Ultimate Comfort
Let's talk clothes and comfort. Throughout the past few years of practicing yoga, I've acquired a regular pile of "yoga clothes". The more I do yoga and wear less restrictive active-wear, the more uncomfortable my day-to-day work clothes are becoming. Who's with me?! Feeling comfortable and secure in my clothes has become a priority in my life. Yoga in pajamas is one of my favorite evening rituals when I practice at home! Being comfortable is essential because it prevents distraction while practicing and allows the body and mind to expand and grow without restriction.
Despite my array of cozy yoga clothes, I've really struggled finding the right bra. One of my major pet peeves when practicing or working out is having to constantly pull up my bra. I hate doing it, and it completely ruins my zen-place. I want a sports bra that feels like a puffy white cloudy, but at the same time keeping everything in place through all my downward facing dogs and sun salutations.
The Montiel Teardrop Bra
It came in the mail around 12:20pm on a Friday afternoon. I was home taking a quick lunch before going back to work. I had been thinking about the delivery all week and I was anxious to try it on. So I ripped open the package and put it on. I was instantly impressed. It felt like heaven (and I was so thankful it fit)! The bra was silky smooth, fit like a glove and hugged every curve. I'm not joking when I say I did NOT want to take it off. But I was almost late for work and it took everything I had in me to put my business casual clothes back on for the rest of the day.
Introducing....Montiel Activewear. This small company is based out of Los Angeles and got their start in 2013. The goal of the company was to make "better than good" quality fitness apparel for women, with price, comfort and design at the top of the priority list.
Throughout my experience receiving this item, the customer service was stellar. I even got a small hand-written note with the package from the owner, Maggie Montiel! I especially love how the product came tucked neatly in a complimentary reusable bag!
How This Bra Stole My Heart
First of all, you can't beat the price for excellent quality and design, $38. It's made of a material called Supplex-Lycra Blend, which is a high performance material with wicking properties, used specifically for dance and/or athletic wear. It is a smooth texture inside and out, perfect for those with sensitive skin. Clothes drape naturally and easily over it too, which is a nice extra feature. The lower band is thick and stitched with an equally soft thread. The bra fits snug, which is good for active and continuous movement. Between the material being extremely soft and seamless, to the support and coverage it offers, it's certainly top of my list for sports bras. I'm actually thinking about sleeping in it tonight.
It's obvious the design was intelligently thought through.
There's a fashion purpose served of course, but the design does add to the level of comfort. This was the first time I've worn a bra with a vertical strap down the back. The straight-line back strap prevents chaffing or pressure pulling on the neck and back. That pressure on the lower neck that can sometimes happen from racer-back style bras is enough to bug me after a while. I really like Montiel's straight-line strap because it gives a barely-there feeling, while continuing to offer support across the front. Another great thing about it is the vertical design. The strap stays put without rubbing across the skin when the shoulder blades move. I know, this is almost knit-picking, but something that I noticed when wearing it. Again, it truly is a barely-there feeling. The signature teardrop design in the front is a lovely added touch, leaving me looking and feeling stunning.
One more thing I love about this bra is the sizing options. There are so many bras out there that I'm a Large or Extra Large in. Really? What about women with larger chests than me? Well, the Montiel bras are sized appropriately, so those big or small can buy one and wear fit into it comfortably. I'm wearing a size Medium (8-10).
But Here's the Real Test. Getting Inverted.
In case you're wondering, I did make sure to venture upside-down in the bra to test out the support across the front. I spent some time in down-dog, then did a headstand before a light handstand practice. I guess for reference and scientific purposes I should share my bra size (usually between a C an D). It's certainly enough of a bust to "get in the way" sometimes. This bra stayed in place and rarely did I need to adjust it. For me, it was perfect!
Honestly, I haven't yet found anything really negative about this bra. It may not be for everyone, as the design is slightly fancier than what some may like. After reading a few reviews, it doesn't sound like the fabric pills over time, but that is yet to be tested by me.
Prefer something a bit more colorful? This bra is offered in several bright and gorgeous colors. I will definitely be buying at least one more, maybe even the tank tops too.
