This is exactly the time of year my body gets into a huge fight with allergens. But this year, it's "shields-up!" I've been doing some research on natural anti-histamines and created a little potion I hope will ease the battle I often have with inflammation and nasal congestion.
So far in southeast Wyoming, it's been a very wet and rainy spring. This is generally uncommon for the region, as we are a high-desert climate and usually more dry than wet. This extra moisture is (well-needed, to say the least) will likely delay the onset of my allergies by only a week or two, but my meteorological sense tells me that June will be much drier. The grass, flowers and trees will be anxious to bloom and send their pollen granules in my direction...!
I've been familiar with essential oils for years, but only recently started experimenting with blends. For a while I was too nervous to blend oils together without a specific recipe, fearing I'd put too much of one, not enough of another and end up creating a blend I never use. It does take some practice to get the ratios right, and the key is to start with very small amounts to reduce waste (and save money) if the blend doesn't come out right.
I favor a couple different kinds of essential oil brands. Aura Cacia is number one, but I also use some NOW essential oils. I've also acquired a couple doTerra blends in my collection that I sometimes play with. However, I really prefer creating my own blends from scratch with individual essential oils from companies that do not part-take in multi-level marketing practices.
Allergy Relief Blend
Almond Oil - 8 mL
Jojoba Oil - 7 mL
Pure Essential Oils
Aura Cacia Lavender Essential Oil - 5 drops
Aura Cacia Peppermint Essential Oil - 3 drops
Aura Cacia Eucalyptus Essential Oil - 3 drops
Aura Cacia Sweet Orange Essential Oil - 2 drops
The lavender has strong anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory properties and is soothing/calming. Peppermint and eucalyptus both have strong anti-inflammatory properties while also helping to clear airway passages in the nose and sinus cavities. I chose Sweet/Wild Orange essential oil for it's fresh, clean and expansive effects on the body and mind.
*Feel free to play around the the ratio of peppermint and eucalyptus. You can add an extra drop of each if you need more of a "clearing-the-nose" effect. FYI, the more peppermint you add to the blend, the more you want to keep it away from the eyes. It doesn't take much for peppermint to sting.
